Between Freshly Ground and Gita Gutawa….

It is my destiny to be born in a country full with lousy musician. Lack of creativity, lack of respect for other musician, and most of all NO DIGNITY!!!

For God sake…. I must say that right know this country has come to a time where even educated people would do anything for money, no wonder nobody respect us. Even small country like Malaysia can kick our ass by invading our lands.

As a musician I always think that everything I created whether its a song, lyrics, musical arrangement, I always think of it as my own master piece, no matter how silly or stupid other people think about my music but to me as long as it come from my head, as long as my hands wrote it, as long as my voice that sing it, to me its my very own sonata. Therefore if somebody try to take it away they have to face me . And I believe that every artist should feel the same.

Anyway, I was visiting You tube a few hours a go and found something interesting, well kind a humiliating actually. I was searching for some cool music video for fun and I found a Band named Freshly Ground. It’s a South African Afro-Fussion band that was formed in Cape Town in 2002. I look at their website and focus on their second album called Nomvula that was released in 2004 and I started to listen to each of their song, I was thinking damn these guys are good. Than I play the 7th track, a song named Doo Bee Do and I was thinking Hey, its sounds so familiar and I remembered there is a local singer (Gita Gutawa from Indonesia) that sings a song with the same words. At that time I just thought that it was just a coincidence..and guess what I heard!! I can’t believe it…… they have the same Intro, same beat, same melody and same music arrangement. The only difference is the language…and the most disappointing thing is when they stole the music they also stole the soul of the song when they changed the language.. The original lyric speak about politics and its influence for people, I think its an amazing lyric. But the Indonesian version speak about silly love. The singer (Gita Gutawa) is actually a good singer. She had a unique voice, a classy kind a voice like Charlotte Church and Sarah Brightman. And her father is also a famous composer in Indonesia…so how can this happen? They iven claimed that the song is their original piece by putting their name as the creator. Is there no Indonesian artist with some dignity anymore…? Well I say…someday I’m gonnna prove that not Indonesian Musician are thief, with my own masterpiece…someday.. but meanwhile …..Bravo Freshly Ground!!!!!!!!!
